Spot round allotment for JEE Main 2014 to begin tomorrow

According to the official website, the seat allotment for JEE Main 2014 spot round will be released on 8th August, 2014. The last date to register online and fill choices for the spot round was 5th August, 2014. If a candidate has failed to explicitly lock his/her choices by 5th August, 2014 till 5.00 PM, his/her last saved choices would have automatically been locked.

The students are required to report at the allotted institute against spot round from 8th August to 12th August, 2014 once the allotment of seats is released. Continue reading

CBSE launches competitive writing series using social platforms

With the understanding that appropriate writing and communication skills play a crucial role in the overall development of the students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently launched  a competitive writing series for students using social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

The social media sites will be used to popularize the entries and also to select winners through peer voting and popular choice. The students participating in the competition will be able to submit entries through smart phones as well. Continue reading

DU to have mandatory course in environmental science for undergraduates

From this year onwards, the undergraduates studying at the University of Delhi (DU) will be required to study environmental science. This has come in to affect with UGC asking the University of Delhi to introduce a mandatory course in environmental science following a Supreme Court order. In 1993, the Supreme Court directed it to frame a compulsory core, four-credit course for all undergraduates in the country.

“Students should be aware of what is happening to the earth and its resources. An understanding of this field is needed in every sphere of life,” says MK Pandit, head, department of environmental sciences, DU. Continue reading

Thousands of primary teachers’ posts lying vacant

On Monday, the parliament was informed about over 600,000 posts of teachers at the primary level which are lying vacant under the state sector and the national literacy mission.

“The total teachers post lying vacant at the primary level both under the state sector and the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan are 6, 06, 191,” human resource development Minister Smriti Irani told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply. Continue reading

Odisha board class 12 results declared

The results for the Odisha Board Class 12th Examinations have been announced. The students who had appeared for the exams can have a look at their results on the official website. This year more than 3,25,000 students appeared for the exams in 1078 centers across the state. The exams concluded on 28th March, 2014.

The results booklets will be available at CHSE headquarters in Bhubaneswar and three zonal offices at Sambalpur, Berhampur and Baripada besides JKBK College in Cuttack. Results will also be available through SMS by some private cellular operators and on CHSE website. Continue reading
